Brother Supports Clean and Green Singapore 2010 with Sponsorship of Sewing Machines
SINGAPORE, 4th November 2009 – Brother International Singapore, a leader in home and business IT and sewing peripherals that focuses on the ‘Customer-First’ approach, continues its go-green initiative by loaning 6 sewing machines for a ‘Made To Wear’ Recycle Fashion Contest jointly organized by the Woodlands Grassroots Organisations and National Environmental Agency, held in conjunction with the launch of Clean and Green Singapore 2010.
Clean & Green Singapore aims to inspire Singaporeans to care for and protect our living environment by adopting an environmentally-friendly lifestyle. Organised by National Environment Agency (NEA), the annual event aims to promote pro-environment concern and activism amongst the community.
“Brother International Singapore places great importance on pro-environmental initiatives. As an environmentally responsible corporate citizen, Brother's printing solutions are eco-friendly. Brother is the first and only printer manufacturer to achieve the coveted TCO standard-the toughest environmental standard in the world-since 2002. This is a globally recognised benchmark for excellence in ecology, energy, emissions and ergonomics,” said Mr Takeo Shimazu, Managing Director of Brother International Singapore Pte Ltd.
Taking its green policy one step further, Brother Singapore constantly maintains its efforts to initiate and support environmentally-friendly initiatives. From May to September 2009, Brother promoted the recycling of used Brother ink, toner and drum cartridges to participate to its Plant-10-Trees campaign. In celebration of the successful collection of 8,000 cartridges, Brother contributed to the green landscapes in Singapore by planting 10 trees at the Coastal Park Connector Network last October.
The “Made To Wear” Recycle Fashion Contest will be held on 8 November 2009 at Republic Polytechnic, where Brother employees will be on-site to teach participating students how to use the sewing machines. The contest is open to all secondary and tertiary schools within the North West District. Participating schools are required to form a team comprising two to five members.
Brother International Singapore will be loaning 6 sewing machines for the competition. Participating students will get to use the NV10, NV30, NV50, NV200, and two NV400 machines, which are computerized sewing machines and boasts a wide variety of stitch designs to cater to the creative minds.
Students are invited to stretch their creative flair further and design complete fashion pieces, footwear and accessories (suitable for regular wear after contest) all made of recycled materials. Participating teams are invited to bring their own materials for the competition.
